Herring River Restoration Project

The Friends of Herring River is the most influential organization associated with the Herring River Restoration Project. Since its inception, it has played a pivotal role in funding, planning, and marketing the project.

• The Friends of Herring River was incorporated in 2009 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Although its mission and vision are broadly defined, the Friend's primary focus since its inception has been the Herring Restoration Project.
• A former employee of the National Park Service has been a driving force in the Friends of Herring River since its inception.
• The Friends of Herring River is the principal manager of the Herring River Restoration Project.
• The project's coordinator is closely associated with (and may be under contract to) the Friends of Herring River. She has been influential through writing grants for funding and applications for permits. As a facilitator, she has considerable control over the agendas of several governing, planning, and advisory groups. She is the project's principal spokesperson, who represents the project at meetings of Wellfleet's Selectboard and public forums.
